A warm welcome to 2014 for all members of District 69.
Launching into the second half of the Toastmasters year is a time to reflect on the past half year and to plan for the future.
I am pleased to report that member educational goals are well ahead of this time last year in most awards. This means not only are members achieving personal goals. Clubs benefit, District benefits when our members become better leaders and communicators, lifting the District’s knowledge and experience base. The clear result is better prepared speeches, outstanding comprehensive evaluations and more productive business sessions.
Currently District members have gained 12 DTM’s compared with 13 for the whole of last year. Imagine what we might achieve in the next five months!
Since 1 July 2013 District has held one session of TLI training and two of District Executive training with approximately 85 – 90% attendance at all sessions showing the dedication of the our leaders from Club to Division to better serve their members and to improving their own skills.
Coming up there is an extremely busy and productive 5 months to challenge us. This starts with both District Executive training and the second round of TLI. A sneak peak at programmes in planning tells me these will be fantastic learning and growth sessions. I personally encourage all Club Executives to attend, not just the mandatory four. This enriches the Club’s capacity immeasurably.
May will be BUSY. We have the District Convention from May 2-4, https://events.toastmastersd69.org/events/DC2014, and Clubs hold their elections at the first meeting in May. How is your Club’s succession planning going? Have you already identified and approached members for Club Executive roles? Act soon, don’t leave it till the last minute.
Finally we have the personal and club goals toward the Distinguished Club Programme. Remember it is not the goals that are most important, it is the process, skills and knowledge gained from stepping up to those goals that benefit the member and the club.
Seven months down and five to go in our Toastmaster year. What are you doing to improve yourself, your club and your District?
