Joe Abbott ACB/ALB
I joined Country Chatters Toastmasters Club in Tara Area 31 Western Division as a Charter Member in 2005. I am currently nearing achieving the Advanced Silver awards.
In conjunction with my wife Jenny we run a sheep property west of Tara in the Western Darling Downs.
When I joined Toastmasters I had no idea what I could achieve except that I wished to improve my verbal skill as a Councillor on the Tara Shire Council, to be able to communicate to various groups throughout the community. I served two terms as a Councillor and 14 years as a member of the Regional Arts Development Fund 8 as Chairman.
I am a Life Member of the Tara Apex Club.
I have represented South West Queensland in the 1980/90’s on the Queensland Council of Parent & Citizens Association both as State Secretary and State Vice President.
At about the time of joining Toastmasters I took up a position as Coordinator with Murilla Landcare Group in Miles, working in Natural Resource Management. This involved applications for various funding from State and Federal Governments, Community organisations and businesses, developing property management plans and strategic planning, organising workshops and field days to improve the skills and knowledge of Landholder groups. It is the skills and development I have learnt in Toastmasters that has helped me achieve in my occupation.
I was appointed Area 31 Governor in 2011/12 and elected Western Division Governor 2013/14. I feel it is time for me to pass on my skills and knowledge to benefit other Toastmasters. I have been encouraged and inspired over the past nine months working with Northern Nomads Advance Toastmasters Club (host Club for the Division Contest) to pass on that knowledge, managerial skills and most importantly assist with the stewardship of District 69 and Toastmasters International in general.
Thank you for the opportunity to nominate for the Lt. Governor Marketing. I have learnt. I have achieved. I have so much more to learn and so much more to achieve.
This is my goal and challenge, I will aspire to reach my full potential through leadership and communication.
