North West Toastmasters is in Mount Isa which means that we are 950 kilometres west of Townsville and 200 kilometres east of the NT border. We chartered in June 2013 with an enthusiastic bunch of brand new Toastmasters. David Burston our sponsor flew from Darwin throughout 2013 to conduct one-day Professional Communication/Speechcraft courses. Fiona Hartnett our mentor drove from Brisbane twice during the year 2013 and conducted Educationals and Workshops during her stay in Mount Isa over a period of seven months. We have put in place our strategic plan, driven by a Guidance Committee which involves the High Performance Leadership Team and led by Fiona. Our key objective is A strong flourishing TM Club. Specific responsibilities are assigned to the Executive Team and for achieving the goals of ‘Promotion’, ‘Education’ and ‘Mentorship’.

Critical to our environment is that Mount Isa is a mining transition town. Recently, the change of ownership of the Mount Isa Mines has had powerful impacts on our community including changes in workloads and employment and people being transferred out of Mount Isa. The flow-on effects on the club are obvious.
Loss of membership has unfortunately resulted from work transfers and Executive Team members have experienced a loss of commitment. It is tough when our closest Toastmaster neighbours are in Townsville so we don’t have visits from other clubs. We will boil the billy for you and even serve home-made sweet treats when you come along.
To keep our spirits up and survive North West Toastmasters Club in Mount Isa needs your help. “PUT MOUNT ISA ON YOUR MAP…PLEASE.” We welcome Toastmasters as guests and others as interested friends: all visitors are welcome.

When you are in Mount Isa next make sure you visit the North West Toastmasters in the friendly Buffs Club situated in the centre of town opposite Kmart. We meet at 6.30pm the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month.
